BalleBolly sat down with Indo-Canadian actor and model Simran Arora (Simran Strilchuk) for an exclusive, candid conversation about her journey into acting and modelling, her sense of style, and the philosophy that keeps her grounded in the industry. Originally from Chandigarh and now based in Vancouver, Simran has featured in over a dozen Punjabi music videos and is also a full-time marketer with dreams of opening her own organic vegan restaurant.
Hi Simran, could you start by telling us a bit about yourself?
Hi, my name is Simran Strilchuk. I am an Indo Canadian actor and model who has done over 12 Punjabi music videos and some modeling work here in the Vancouver area. I am originally from Chandigarh, the city beautiful. Along with acting and modeling that I recently started, I am a full time marketer and part time chef working towards opening my own organic vegan restaurant.
What made you choose modeling and acting as a career?
I have always had a passion for acting, since middle school I have always been into drama, theatre and music. I used to sing as well but haven’t done that since high school. Fun fact — Manavgeet and I were together in school choir and music class.
Who supported you to come into this field?
My parents and my husband have been a huge support! Taking my pictures, carrying my stuff while I am at a shoot — it would have been impossible without their support and motivation.
What has been your favorite job so far?
I have loved all my jobs, it would be unfair to choose just one because I have learned something from all my jobs.
What is your dream modelling job?
My dream modeling job would be to be on the cover of Vogue magazine!
What is your dream acting job?
To star in a Hollywood movie or a TV show, preferably comedy.
What do you think is most important in this field?
Remembering that it takes years to build your name but only a few seconds to ruin it! Staying humble is one of the most important things a person can do to be in this field.
What is that favorite accessory that you cannot leave the house without?
Sunglasses and pepper spray! I cannot drive without my sunglasses and they also complete any look. Pepper spray is a sad reality where women have to carry a weapon with them to keep themselves safe.
What does fashion mean to you?
To me fashion is whatever one can pull off — I am not going to follow a trend just because everyone is doing it if it does not look good on me. Fashion should be for everybody, not just 6ft tall size 0 models, because people come in all shapes and sizes.
